David and Gene Thorp
Gorse Bank Farm
Baslow
David, assisted by his grandson Alex, farms 800 acres at Baslow in Derbyshire. The farm is mainly pastureland, although 50 acres is cultivated arable, mainly barley as fodder for the livestock.
They have a herd of 200 suckler cows, mainly Limousin/Belgium Blue crosses and Belgium Blue/Simmental crosses, as well as a small herd of 30 Highland/Shorthorn crosses. All the animals are born, reared and finished on the farm.
David also has a flock of 500 ewes, mainly Mules, which keeps him and Alex busy during the spring.
