Alan Mallinson
Lower Wigginstall Farm
Reapsmoor
Alan, his wife, son and daughter farm 160 acres of meadows 1,000 feet above sea level. Here they have a herd of around 30 Charollais and Limmousin suckler cows and calfs, 8 in-calf heifers and 15 finishing cattle. They also have a flock of around 40 sheep.
Their non-intensively farmed pastureland extends into an Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is botanically rich in acid grasses and flowers. It also provides the habitat for ground nesting birds such as Curlew, Snipe and Lapwing.
